news 2016

The Global Enabling Trade Report 2016 co-published by the World Economic Forum and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation was released earlier today.

ICC is one of the three host organizations of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation, along with the World Economic Forum and Center for International Private Enterprise. Together, with the governments of Australia, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom and United States, we aim to leverage our shared networks and resources to support effective trade facilitation reforms measured by real-world business metrics. It is in this context that the Alliance has co-published the 2016 report.

A few words about the content: The first chapter sets the scene: it presents the latest developments in international trade; the current (and difficult) governance context, highlights the importance of trade facilitation (notably through three “Trade stories” from Ghana, Colombia and Kenya. It then introduces the Alliance, its metrics and benchmarking work stream. It surveys existing TF indicators and shows the data gaps that the Alliance hope to fill. Chapter 2 presents the latest iteration of the Enabling Trade Index, which assesses the extent to which economies have in place institutions, policies, infrastructures and services facilitating the free flow of goods over borders and to their destination. Attached is a brief summary of the key messages of this edition. The “Economy profiles” section provides detailed scorecards for all 136 economies covered by the Index. The Profiles contain a special section on trade facilitation consisting of a unique dashboard showing the status of TFA notifications by country mapped against the OECD indicators.

The report has already been shared with all the heads of mission to the WTO to share with their capitals. Please see the Global Alliance press release available at www.tradefacilitation.org. For regional highlights and further details on the report see here. The report and several infographics will also be promoted through social media through the Alliance twitter account @GATFnews and linkedin account – using #getr16.
